I majored in engineering classes and leaned on the sciences while at Rutgers University, New Brunswick New Jersey. In my early years through the 70’s, I dabbled with ceramics and chose other career paths before rediscovering my wheel in 1992.. I primarily worked with stoneware through the 90’s I discovered a book by Prof. Herbert Sanders (Glazes for special effects) about crystalline glazes around 1998. Since then the field has absorbed all my time and energy, and I am still fascinated by this unique and wonderful process.
Currently my work is distributed through over 40 galleries across the country including the newly renovated Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.
I throw all the vessels one at a time on the potters’ wheel using a fine porcelain clay body. The purity of this body ensures the brilliance of color in the glaze. I try to spend as much time as it takes to achieve a harmonic appearance in each piece.
Simplicity is basic for beauty. My own process in trying to make a beautiful pot, whether contemporary or classic is achieved using a smooth, continuous flowing line of form. The evolution of success is a study of the progression over time.
